Day 2: Pisa and Prato 27 May 2006

27 May 2006 Pisa and Prato

Sun came up at 4am. Dunno why got so many Canebinieri trucks and pick ups parked at our hotel. The police even have breakfasts in our hotel. Not bad huh. I happened to have breakfast with Mr.Yap from JB and understood that he is exporting furniture to Dubai. And the yound pretty lady in front of me is already a mother of two, elder being 12 years old. How well she conceal her age!

It feels so good to stand under the sun now cos it is cold. Met our driver of the 49-seater Mr Francisco who will be with us for the rest of the tour. He looks handsome, and speak english, unlike the Roma driver yesterday. There are only 16 of us so plenty of room in the bus, it is only later then we realise a smaller bus is actually better.

On the way to Pisa, we saw many houses on the terraced hill. Make full use of the space available. Many farm lands with rolled grass. many long Trafalgar, Bobus, Contiki coaches passed us by. Full of passengers. Winnie told us that the highway here is called Motorway or Freeway cos you need not pay toll charges but upon entering towns or cities, there will be a hefty sum of permit charge. Entering Florence cost 230 euro.

Our coach is not allowed to enter the Pisa Town Centre, so we got a chance to take the public shuttle bus. 5 min ride and we are standing in front of the leaning tower. The waiter at the restaurant is a Malaysian, so we took our chance to request for chilli and he galdly took out some, for our pasta.

There is a street selling souvenirs and t shirts in front of duomo. We bought some and have tea in one of the corner ristirantante. Think the waiter and the owner not that honest. Charge us high price. Winnie went on to confront them and manage to get back 10 euro. It was later then we discovered that the so-called service charge, is just another excuse for them to inflate the price, cos when we drink in Verona, they didnt charge anything like that, you just need to pay the price you saw on menu. Sigh...kena cheated in small town.

We went to the restaurant in Prato before heading to the hotel near there. Prato is a small town nearest to Florence, our destination tomolo. The Chinese food standard here is much much better than what we had at Rome. The soup was simply...good...manage to quench some "fire" due to the travelling. Stocked up water from the minimart nearby and also manage to get some cheap fruits. Jiawen told me that the peach is in the season now but the cherry is not, so we got ourselves cheap peaches for the journey ahead. Quite sweet though.

I asked Winnie for a walk around this sleepy small town. Went to Decathlon, a huge sports goods complex, which sell everything about sports under the brand Decathlon. So tempted to get myself jacket. They even have a showroom for the tents, and you can see the unfolded tents before purchase.

Winnie told me that one of the 6 people group that always late and appeared rich is a datuk (title). It was later then i know that he is the MD of a listed company. No wonder.
